The C2000
family of DSP controllers is specifically targeted at motor control applications.
Such applications are traditionally electrically noisy and so this may
be a factor in choosing the most suitable emulator. The Spectrum Digital
XDS510PP Plus and SPI525
emulators can both be used with the SPI110
optically isolated pod which provides 2500V RMS of electrical isolation
to the JTAG signals.
Another feature of the C2000 family is on-chip flash, many users have
a requirement to be able to program this via JTAG without having to have
a full debugger such as Code Composer installed. All the emulators featured
on this page are compatible with the TI flash utilities which make this
possible. In addition the two Spectrum Digital emulators also ship with
a user-friendly GUI called SDFlash which greatly simplifies the flash
programming process.
If portability is an issue and the emulator is to be used with a number
of machines or with a notebook PC then the Predator PCMCIA emulator is
probably the best choice.
Finally, non of the current devices in the C2000 family support high-speed
RTDX and so there is not really any need to pay the extra money for an
XDS560 class emulator.
