Multi-media codecs on ARM Cortex™-A8 |
Ittiam have recently announced a new series of high performance audio and video codecs for the ARM Cortex™-A8.
Based on proven reference C models for various platform implementations, the codecs have been developed to provide an enhanced user experience with high-definition (HD) resolutions due to the powerful acceleration provide by the NEON technology.
The project offering includes MPEG-2, MPEG-4, VC-1/WMV9, H.264 and MJPEG video encoders and decoders; audio codecs ranging from stereo AAC, MP3 and WMA to certified implementations of high fidelity codecs such as AC-3 5.1, WMA Pro 7.1 and AAC-HE 5.1. These codecs can be augmented with a set of post-processing quality enhancement tools.
This product allows customers to have the right level of performance for a low price point on processors like TI's OMAP35x processors. |

HD 720p encoders and decoders on TI OMAP3™ platform |
A variety of consumer electronics product, which utilise Texas Instruments OMAP3 processor, now require HD720P video encoding and decoding. Ittiam have created a number of HD720P codecs that optimise the use of the DSP, HW accelerators and the ARM Cortex™-A8 cores. Codecs include:
- MPEG-4 SP Encoder
- H.264 BP and HP Decoders
- MPEG-4 SP and ASP Decoders
- DivX 4, 5 and 6 Decoders
- VC-1 SP, MP and AP Decoders
- MPEG-2 MP@ML Decoder

Consumer electronics WMV9 success story |
A Multimedia European leader company offers VoD box and services in partnership with one of the most important European TV Channels.
The overall idea of the project as to be able to retrieve and playback any secured Windows Media WMV9 content available from the TV channel through a box connected to the network.
The terminal, based on a DM644x device from TI, enables playback of WM9/VC-1 and WMA content up to High Definition resolution on the DSP side, while the ARM performs the user interface, the interface management as well as the Microsoft DRM.Codecs, system-level software and DRM have been built up and made robust for this use case over almost one year, testing any kind of content that may have to be decoded.
Ittiam Systems has been working very closely with this company for several months to bring this terminal to market as quickly as possible.
