C6474 Multicore DSP from Texas Instruments

Texas Instruments recently announced their newest high performance multicore DSP, which integrates three 1GHz cores on a single chip for DSP farm applications.

TI's TMS320C6474 provides greater performance density and savings on cost, power and board space while offering an easy migration path for designers of high performance systems.

  C6474 Evaluation Module

The C6474 Evaluation Module (EVM) includes two C6474 multicore DSPs connected via high speed SERDES interfaces: Serial RapidIO™ (sRIO), Gigabit Ethernet MAC (GEMAC), and Antenna Interface (AIF). This gives developers the opportunity to begin working on inter-processor communication mechanisms in a quick and efficient manner.

The C6474 EVM also comes with onboard emulation, as well as a board specific version of Code Composer Studio™ (CCStudio). Customers will have full access to C6474 EVM design files and schematics (Orcad and Gerber), as well as a board support library to assist them in their design process.

Please note initial deliveries expected around February 2009. Contact KCL for a quotation to pre-order now.

MSP430™ Tutorial for Green Designs

Softbaugh have announced new MSP430™ self-study materials to help firmware and electronics engineers implement green designs. Their latest book, "MSP430 State Machine Programming" ISBN 978-0-9754759-2-8, leverages ten years' experience with this microcontroller family from Texas Instruments.

Arranged as fifteen tuturial chapters, with solved exercises at the end of each chapter, this text is unique among MSP430 titles and is designed for self-study by project engineers or as a laboratory manual for a semester course. This book is written specifically for use with Softbaugh's ES2274 evaluation system, but the principles apply to any MSP430 design.
