Streampix: Time Stamping Images and Sequences

Streampix: High Capacity Video Acquisition and Storage

High Capacity Video Acquisition and Storage.

This is a Streampix based module designed to overcome the storage limitations that may arise when recording image data onto a single logical drive under Windows XP.

How it works:

A single hard disk drive has a maximum capacity of 750 GB. In many video recording situations this is simply not enough storage space. Combining multiple drives together in a RAID 0 array can increase the capacity to 2TB, the limit provided by Windows XP for a logical drive. For some video recording applications this disk space limit may simply not be sufficient.

Streampix now includes an option to define a set of predefined destination disks to be used for recording with automatic change when a disk unit becomes full. Furthermore, as the number of available drives is limited on computers, hot swappable drives may be used and Streampix will loop through the available drives.

Total Disk Capacity:

Using the Multi Disk feature of StreamPix, you can record up to 16,000 GigaBytes or 16 Terabytes of data in a fixed configuration or with no limit in a hot swappable setup. The 16 Terabyte solution requires the right controller and number of drives.

This is useful for applications that require vast amounts of storage for data processing or viewing.

Using the Multi Disk Settings:

The Multi Disk feature in Streampix assists in the configuration required to record to multiple disks.

The Available Disk tab displays a list of all the disks currently found on the computer.

The Swap Disk tab displays a list of all the disks selected as targets for continuous recording. The swap disk list can be created from any of the currently available disks.

Any available disk can be easily added or removed from the Swap Disk list.

Both the Available Disk and the Swap Disk tabs display the drive letter and the volume name. The volume name is an easily identifiable tag that can be used to label a disk in a single or multiple hot swappable disk bay.

The volume name appears in square brackets [] after the drive letter.

    Recording onto Multiple Disks:

When the disk recording the current sequence is full, Streampix will automatically create a new sequence on the first disk listed in the swap list. The name of the new sequence will be currentsequence_01 which will be incremented upon each disk change.

Streampix will stop recording after going through the swap list or if the end recording condition is satisfied. Streampix may also stop recording if an error occurs due to lack of sufficient disk space on any disk in the swap list or if a disk is no longer present.

Checking the Circulate through the Swap List box, allows Streampix to continuously loop through all disks on the list. This option is useful when looping through hot swappable drives.
