Description

Development platform for Set Top Box, IPTV, and embedded media processing Based on NXP Semiconductors (formerly Philips) pnx8935 Nexperia home entertainment engine, the MDS-225 product offers a rich platform for the development of video products needing support for analog and digital (SD and HD) standards.

The system comes with video decoders that can support:

• MPEG2 decode (up to 1080i with ATSC or DVB profiles)
• MPEG4 ASP level 5
• H264 High profile level 4
• VC1 Advanced profile level 3

as well as the corresponding audio formats including MP3, WMA, AAC, AAC-HE, and Dolby AC3.

Please note some decoders require the appropriate IP license before they can be supplied. Please see the pnx8935 datasheet for complete details.

The pnx8935 has a 320 MHz MIPS32 core and is supplied with a Linux 2.6 kernel. The pnx8935 includes dedicated hardware for video processing, including:

• 5 layer image composition processor with up scaler for HD out downscaled mix for simultaneous SD output
• 2D Drawing engine
• Second (standard def) output allows HD content on main output to be scaled

Standard (DirectFB, ALSA, DVB 2.0) and custom Linux APIs are used to control video and audio decoding and display. The MDS-225 can also be used to develop software for the pnx8932, which is a SD only version of the pnx8935.
