Description
Complete high performance development platform
for Set Top Box, IPTV, and embedded media processing. The MDS-810 product offers a rich platform for the development of
video products needing support for analog and digital (SD
and HD) standards.
The MDS-810 is a fully featured development platform for the NXP Semiconductor's pnx8950 device. Already deployed in millions of consumer devices, this powerful chip supports decode of High Definition MPEG2 content (720p or 1080i up to 18 mbps) as well as Standard Definition (480i/576i) MPEG4, DivX, or Windows Media content and their corresponding audio formats.
Applications are developed under embedded Linux running on an embedded MIPS processor on the pnx8950. Standard Linux APIs are used to control operation of decoders and to render the results to the screen. The pnx8950's powerful scaling and deinterlacing engine can be used to produce excellent results from standard definition content.
While designed for use as a platform for IP STB applications, the MDS-810 can be used for developing a wide range of system development.
In addition to decode, optional libraries can be purchased to support encoding of legacy analog content for PVR applications.
The pnx8950 includes two TriMedia processors. These powerful VLIW cores are the same as those found on the pnx1500 devices and can be reused for other purposes by purchasing the optional NDK/MPTK libraries

support for licensed IP (DivX, WMT, Dolby) is available separately with

NDK4-810: NDK 4.3 compiler for TriMedia core with device
libraries for pnx8950
MPTK810-BASE: MPTK 1.2 decoder object code library bundle
for use with NDK 4.3 compiler for TriMedia core. No
license fees to MDS or NXP, end user responsible for IP
holder fees (MPEGLA, etc.). Includes MPEG2/4, DivX,
Dolby AC3, and WM decoders.
Note that the NDK and MPTK must be purchased as a bundle.
